Bumps or Knots
One thing Pat has learned from all of the providers at Hartshorn Health Service is that there is absolutely no way to even guess about what a "bump" might be without an exam.
Several STDs have symptoms that people might describe as "bumps", such as HPV (genital warts), molluscum contagiosum, or even herpes.
The bumps could also be a pimple, a mole, a skin tag, a plugged mucus gland, a swollen cyst, a wart or many other things.
You will definitely feel better knowing what it is, so Pat would recommend that you make an appointment with a provider to check it out.
You can call the Men's Clinic at Hartshorn by dialing 491-6963 or the Women’s Clinic at 491-1754 if you are interested in having a provider look at it.
Good luck!
STD Testing
- You may be checked anytime after the "unsafe" sexual episode. Unfortunately, many STDs vary in incubation time (i.e. & the time it takes to show up on a diagnostic test). In other words, there is no perfect time frame for you to get tested for all STDs. In addition, there is no "one test" that is capable of testing you for all STDs. Most STD tests are separate tests.
- Chlamydia can be tested with a urethral swab or urine sample. (The Chlamydia test for a female can be done during the pelvic exam)
- Gonorrhea must be done with a urethral swab.
- A blood test is required for HIV, Herpes, Hepatitis B and C.
- HPV is usually diagnosed by a visual exam.
- If you need to make an appointment for STD testing, please contact Hartshorn Health Services Women's Clinic at 491-1754, or the Men's Clinic at 491-6963.
