Who is Pat?
Pat is actually a conglomerate of many different people who answer questions that have been submitted to the website. These people are health care professionals (doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, etc.) at Hartshorn Health Services and counselors in the University Counseling Center at CSU. The website itself is maintained and updated by a student in the Health Promotions Department at Hartshorn Health Services.

How was Ask Pat started?
In the fall of 1999, Hartshorn Health Service at Colorado State University
decided to create a questionnaire for students to assess what they knew
about general sexual health. Although the survey questions we composed
were basic questions about contraception and STDs, we found that many
students were misled about this very important information, and we decided
that we needed to reach a larger portion of the CSU population to educate
them about sexual health. Then we had an idea. What if we could create
a question-answer website about these topics? Students would be able
to get their most painfully embarrassing questions answered confidentially
and accurately. After much thought on the subject we came up with the
idea for Ask Pat!
After we realized that students were indeed using the website, we added the topics of drugs and alcohol, relationships, and emotional health issues to Ask Pat. We felt that students would benefit from being able to get professional advice about a variety of health topics besides sexual health.

Who can use Ask Pat?
Everyone is welcome to view the archived questions,
hot topics and other information contained on the Ask Pat site, however
due to the large number of questions we have been receiving we have
decided to limit
the asking of questions to students of Colorado State
University.

If it is anonymous then why do I have to enter my Eid?
We need a way to verify that you are a student of
Colorado State University, so we decided to use Eid. This does not mean
that your Eid information is stored in any way, it is only used as a
means to
verify your student status. You are also welcome
to ask a question through the Rampoint Student Portal. Just navigate
to the Student Life tab and then find the Hartshorn Health Service Channel
and you will
be able to ask a question.
